From Southampton, England, visit London or Broadlands, home of shipyards, gardens, and an abbey; or take a short ferry ride to the Isle of Wight. Some amazing historic sites include the Hermitage art museum (second in size only to the Louvre); St. Isaac's Cathedral, the domes of which make St. Petersburg instantly recognizable, and the city’s gorgeous palaces. Many ships also stop in Helsinki, Finland’s capital city, which is surrounded by the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Finland, making waterway tours a must for all visitors. In Tallinn, Estonia, the city’s old town is packed with cafés and boutiques, although the area also offers a number of historic landmarks, including a castle, two cathedrals, a cannon tower, and a 14th century town hall square. |
